Costuming

Costuming and Makeup

We want you to feel like you've stepped into another world when you arrive at Ashenfall. We strive to create an immersive experience, and that includes your costuming and makeup!

Other than Human, each of the available species have specific requirements for makeup and costuming. If you are interested in playing a non-human species, please review the requirements on the species page.

Costumes must fit in a medieval fantasy theme. Analog clocks and watches are permitted. Steampunk elements are generally not permitted. We ask that all players incorporate a piece of their culture in their costuming. Information can be found on their individual culture pages.

Arms and Armor

We allow both boffer and latex style weapons and shields as long as they meet our safety checks prior to each and every event. All weapons undergo safety checks each event. Homemade boffers are permitted, but must pass the safety checks and are approved on a case-by-case basis.

Make

LARP weapons fall under 2 primary categories: boffer and latex. While both make use of foam for padding, they differ in their general shape and exteriors. Boffers are often rounded and covered in a fabric sleeve, while latex weapons can shaped to look more like actual weapons and are coated with latex for a more defined finish.

Cores

Most melee weapons, whether boffer or latex, should contain a flexible fiberglass core for structural support. This is both for safety and practicality in combat. The only exception is any thrown weapons, such as daggers or bottles, to prevent injury.
